Product Description:
Ryder. The man was just as sexy as she remembered him:

tall, lean, and dangerous, a demon hunter with the body of a god
.

But archaeologist Angelique Deveraux has little time for lust. She’s been hiding a gleaming black diamond, a prize everyone wants—including Ryder—and now she’s running for her life. Hot on her trail is Ryder, a legendary demon hunter she desires but can’t quite trust, a man with an insatiable need for danger and a few dark secrets of his own.

As sparks ignite between the rogue hunter and his latest prey, Angie’s world is rocked again when her twin sister vanishes, stolen away by the same dark forces stalking Angie and the black diamond. With Ryder offering protection—and more—suddenly a woman who’s never trusted anyone is falling for a man who isn’t afraid of anything…except losing his heart. Now, as an all-out demon war erupts and Angie’s family secrets unravel, Ryder’s demon hunt and Angie’s quest to save her sister are about to collide. And when they do, it’ll send these two wary hearts on the wildest adventure of their lives—and maybe even save humankind in the process.…

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Darkest Touch-A Joyfully Recommended Title!
Angelique Deveraux is an archaeologist on the run. Having uncovered a black diamond, she knows that because of this find, she is in danger. How much danger has yet to be seen but if the arrival of Ryder is any indication, Angie might just be in a bit more trouble than she imagined.

Demon hunter Ryder scoffs at his legendary status but knows that he is the best man for the job of recovering an important artifact. The fact that he will be on the run with Angelique Deveraux is just icing on the cake. Ryder has a mission and failure is not an option. He doesn't realize the biggest and most important mission of his life will soon be Angelique Deveraux. When a demonic war ignites Ryder and Angie get more than they bargain for but in the end, they can't imagine living without it - the love of a lifetime.

Three times is the charm with Jaci Burton's The Darkest Touch. I melted into a wet pile of goo at the arrival of Ryder and never fully recovered. A demon hunter who is in high demand, I like how Ryder didn't forget the fact that Angie was a woman and as such, he still had an air of respect for her, even when kissing her socks off. Their flight from the demons intent on capturing Angie and Ryder's original mission interfered some but I think that Jaci Burton captured the true essence of Ryder and Angie's characterizations. Both were scared to trust and as such, both were wary. I loved watching the barriers come down and their love unfold!

Jaci Burton's writing continues to evolve and as such, she is one of my favorite writers. Books like The Darkest Touch reiterate her fine writing ability as well as her capacity to insert emotions and realistic characteristics into each of her novels. My favorite Demon Hunter installment to date, I Joyfully Recommend The Darkest Touch - it is a do-not-miss kind of read!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - A bit disappointed
I thought this looked like a good book. I haven't read the other books in the series and just now found out this was the 3rd book. That would explain why I felt a little lost at the beginning but it was easy to pick up this book without needing to read the 1st 2 books in the series. I didn't enjoy this book as much as I believed I would have. The plot was good and the idea is very good but it just fell short. It was predictable and I didn't find that it was very deep. The plot and characters were not as evolved as they could have been. She touched on things but didn't delve below the surface much. It seemed to be lacking something but I just couldn't quite figure out what was missing. Usually I would read a book like this within 1 maybe 2 days but it's been 2 weeks and I just finished the book. It is a easy read, but I wouldn't make this my first choice. Something to read if you don't have much else on your plate at the moment.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Third in a Series!
Archaeologist Angelique Deveraux has a problem. She has a diamond she needs to protect and a twin sister she needs to find. She doesn't have time to be on the run from Demons and a demon hunter named Ryder who just so happens to get her melty. What she doesn't understand is her sister is in way more trouble than even Angie can handle and going alone is not an option. Ryder is part of the game plan and if she wants to get through this latest mess, she is going to need him by her side.

Ryder is in the middle of fighting an all out demon war and he needs to protect the diamond that Angie has managed to steal away from both sides. The fact that this woman gets to him as no other and the fact that he's not terribly sure he can trust her only adds to the his dilemma. As things heat up he's going to have to decide if he can trust Angie and make peace with the way he feels about her. Because if he doesn't. He is going to fail in his mission.

Although this is the third in a series, if you're like me, series challenged, the only issue you're going to have is in when can you possibly get the first two titles! This is a fast paced read, full of action and sexy endearing characters. Ms. Burton has hit a home run with this series, it's fresh, new and highly entertaining. This is a must read!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Third in series
Jaci Burton's demon hunter series is very enjoyable with each book written in such a way that it can be read on its own without knowledge of the previous ones. 'The Darkest Touch', which follows on from 'Surviving Demon Island' and 'Hunting the Demon', follows twin sisters Angelique and Isabelle as they find themselves immersed in a whole new world, that of demons and the fight against them. Angelique and Isabelle first appeared in 'Hunting the Demon', they are archaeologists and the initial meeting between Angelique and the male love interest of this book, Ryder, took place in that book. However in this book we follow Ryder as he searches for the missing Angelique who has stolen the Black Diamond, a special artefact that the demons want. When Ryder finds Angelique he discovers the demons have also found her - can he keep her safe and, more importantly, can she come to terms with some insights into her history and with the possible evil nature of her twin. Alongside the primary romance we also have a romance between Isabelle and another of the demon hunters which isn't resolved in this book - it's presumably the focus of a future story.

Jaci Burton's writing style is good with her pacing well measured and a certain amount of characterisation. This British reviewer found the dialogue between the lovers rather too sappy to stomach but overall it was an interesting story with plenty of action.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - enthralling paranormal romantic suspense fantasy
In an Australian cave, the Sons of Darkness, powerful demon lords, answer directly to the Evil One. They demand archeologist Angelique Deveraux to meld with the black diamond she was hired to find. When she touches it the diamond's magical light goes out. Instead of making it glow stronger. Angie is afraid that her twin sister Isabelle, who was always a bit evil, will bring the stone to life. While the Realm of Light demon hunters fight the Sons of Darkness, Angie hides the diamond so her sibling will not use it.

A Realm of Light member observes Isabelle to see if she embraced the demon inside her as the father of her and her sister was a powerful demon lord. Dalton ends up following Isabelle while Ryder who is supposed to get the gem from Angie falls for her. Both men fear what will happen to their women and themselves. When the Sons of Darkness kidnap the twins, they both understand their new rescue mission is to save their respective significant other or die trying; while the sisters have decisions to make that if made wrong will end up with the Sons of Darkness ruling humanity.

The two sisters will have come to terms re their dark heritage and understanding the evil that makes up part of their "DNA". The story line is a dark vs. light romantic suspense fantasy. The Sons of Darkness want nothing less than ruling all life on earth while the Realm of Light is determined to prevent that from happening; the twins are caught in the middle. Jaci Burton provides a dynamic and enthralling paranormal romantic thriller as demon war threatens the planet.

In the realm of revenge thrillers, you'd be hard pressed to find more ultra-violent vengeance and psycho thrills than in the creepy story of Oldboy. This Korean import made a pop splash at the Cannes Film Festival and during its limited theatrical run thanks to the imprimatur of Quentin Tarantino, who raved about it and its visionary director, Chan-wook Park, to anyone who would listen. It's easy to see why QT fell in love with the grindhouse attitude, fast-paced action, violent imagery, and icy-black humor, but it's a disservice to think of Oldboy as another Tarantino homage or knockoff. The darkly existential undercurrent in the themes that Oldboy traces over its life-long narrative arc is much more complex and deeply disturbing than anything of its kind. The movie's tagline is, "15 years of imprisonment... 5 days of vengeance." The imprisonee is Oh Dae-Su, an ordinary Joe who is snatched off a Seoul street corner and locked away in a dank, windowless fleabag hotel room for the aforementioned 15 years. Just as abruptly he is released, and thus the five days begin. Why did this happen to Oh Dae-Su? Ah, but that would be telling, and in fact we don't know ourselves until the final wrenching scenes.

Oldboy breaks into a classic three-act saga, the first of which details the hallucinatory period of imprisonment in which Oh Dae-Su wades from mild insanity to outright psychosis in the hands of unseen yet attentive captors. Act 2 is the revenge, when an entirely different tone takes over and Oh Dae-Su moves with single-minded purpose and clarity. It's this section that has gained the most notoriety, primarily for the claw-hammer dentistry scene, the one-man-army tracking shot, and the wriggling octopus that Oh Dae-Su consumes in a sushi bar (he's been dead so long he simply needs life back inside him in any way possible). In act 3, answers finally start to emerge and the sinister atmosphere grows even more profound--not without a healthy dose of extra bloodletting, of course. Oldboy is an undeniably poetic masterpiece of tension, fury, and dynamic craft. Ultimately, its epic cycle of tragedy is of the sort that mankind has been inflicting upon itself for all time. Some of the images may be gruesome, but all converge into a kind of beauty. It's in the telling of this lurid tale that these details become one and the memories of pain ultimately heal. --Ted Fry

A slightly better movie than you might think, this variation on The Karate Kid finds three youngsters helping out their grandfather in his fight against evil ninja warriors. The real secret weapon here is director Jon Turtletaub, paying some dues on this 1992 family feature; he's since gone on to direct John Travolta in Phenomenon and Sandra Bullock in While You Were Sleeping. --Tom Keogh

Before he made the notorious cult hit Oldboy, South Korean director Chan-wook Park created Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, an equally gruesome yet elegant meditation on revenge. Desperate to get a kidney transplant for his dying sister, a deaf and dumb young man named Ryu (Ha-kyun Shin, Save the Green Planet!) kidnaps the daughter of a wealthy industrialist named Park (Kang-ho Song, Shiri). Despite Ryu's best intentions, things go horribly awry, setting in motion a series of escalating revenges--to describe the plot in more detail would undercut the movie, because much of its power comes from the spare and skillful storytelling. Chan-wook Park is careful to ground the audience in the characters' emotional lives; when the violence begins, the bloody events unfold with the hypnotic power of the revenge tragedies of the Shakespearean era, which had over-the-top plots and littered the stage with bodies, yet were full of rich poetry. Park's eye for startling images and careful editing creates a visual poetry, grotesque yet often haunting. Certainly not a film for everyone--squeamish viewers had best beware, while anyone who wants their violence flagrant and guilt-free will be disappointed--but cinephiles looking to have their hearts squeezed along with their stomachs will enjoy Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. --Bret Fetzer
