Editorial Review:

Description:
Healing power...Massage is an ancient form of healing, recognized and used for thousands of years to offer relief from pain, to restore good spirits, provide comfort, boost energy, and to rejuvenate muscles. You will be learning this ancient form of healing art with our Basic Massage Therapy DVD.

Who doesn't love a good backrub?

We all know that backrubs feel great, but do you know why? Sure, they relax your muscles, but they do more than that. They bring us into physical contact with another human being, and that itself, is a powerful experience. Add to that experience the trained, therapeutic touch of a massage therapist, and you have a potent tool for improving your physical, mental, and spiritual health.

This video gives you the instruction you need to be that massage therapist and gives you all the tools you need to learn the healing touch of massage. This is great whether you intend to massage for fun or even if you want to pursue this as a career.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - wow!!!
I haven't yet purchased this particular DVD, but from the ALL 5 star feedbacks I've read I DEFINITELY am getting this DVD!! My friend loves massages and I love giving them, so...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - My husband really loves me
Best 88 minutes I ever spent watching a DVD. My husband always was coming in from work complaining about his back hurting. Well he still comes home complaining but I think its just to get the massage I have learned to give. He is a now like a little pussycat enjoying life after dinner. What a wonderful adventure it has turned out to be for the both of us.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good for the Basics
Good dvd for the basic techniques. Great for starting out or just to learn how to massage for fun. The strokes are good, solid techniques. Great learning tool for beginners

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good solid foundation
This dvd has good solid information for a foundation to start your own massage practice, or just for fun and health benefits. I would recommend this dvd to anyone interested in improving their health and techniques, novice and pro's alike.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very pleased with this video!!! Five Stars
I bought this in VHS format - but many buy in DVD so I wanted to review it here as well. I was extremely happy with this video. It showed the basics - and that's just what I wanted. Most of us know that we carry stress in our shoulders and one of the things this video explained was the accupressure points in our body to relieve those stress knots. It also showed how to give a soothing swedish massage. I've used the techniques I've learned in the tape and always have someone who's fallen asleep by the end of the massage! (now THAT'S a compliment)! Thanks for a great basic tape that everyone should have.

On paper, the Mio DigiWalker P550 looks to be an attractive gadget for the mobile professional, combining the capabilities of a PDA and GPS into one device. However, its poor battery life and subpar navigation skills tell a different story.

Though it won't appeal to the masses quite yet, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a nice, portable device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it has some worthy upgrades.

Though it has a few design and performance glitches, the Sony Ericsson W300i is a quality, basic MP3 cell phone.

Diesel vehicles have nearly a 50-percent market share in Europe, thanks to tax incentives and diesel-friendly legislation across the EU. Diesels are so passé there that you can buy a BMW 730d and no one will think it odd that your luxury car burns oil. Pull up in a diesel 7-Series in America and people would leer at you like you've alighted from an amphibious vehicle reeking of saltwater and dead trout.

But now, thanks to the oft-reported combo of newly-raised CAFE standards, not-so-newly-raised gas prices, and the 50-state diesel engine, GM, Ford, and Chrysler are about to dip more than a hesitant toe into the diesel game. Chrysler offers a diesel in the Grand Cherokee, but soon all three automakers will offer diesels in their best-selling lineups of light trucks -- the Dodge Ram 1500 is expected to offer a 50-state diesel after 2009. Light trucks are being used to lead the charge since those buyers stand to gain the most with the least amount of (perceived) sacrifice.

Diesels currently have 3.2-percent of the American market. Some estimates put them at 15-percent by 2015. That's a huge leap, and diesel still has plenty of hurdles. Diesels will come with a cost premium over gasoline-engined cars. That should be easy enough to conquer -- incentives and some quick cost and longevity calculations should convince people of the benefit. The real hurdle is the nagging issue of perception. The plan will probably be to attack that with a price that makes the proposition unbeatable. Said Chrysler's director of environmental affairs, "If it's priced right, we can sell diesel here. Diesel can give you an immediate poke in fuel economy -- 20 to 40 percent. Not many technologies can deliver that today."

One of the most unjustly underrated Italian operas receives a production that should help correct that attitude. Andrea Chenier is based on the true story of a poet who was caught up and destroyed by the blind fury of the French Revolution. Giordano's music captures the acrid flavor of that movement, the cynicism of some of its leaders, and Chenier's integrity and tragic fate. This production's value has probably increased since Plácido Domingo, the leading Chenier of his generation, has dropped the role from his repertoire.

All three principals sing eloquently and with a fine sense of the opera's structure and context. Anna Tomowa-Sintow is in even better voice than Domingo, and Giorgio Zancanaro heads an expert supporting cast. The Covent Garden Chorus, directed with distinction by Michael Hampe, gives a memorable impression of the revolutionary mob. Julius Rudel's conducting is totally idiomatic. --Joe McLellan

It would have been better, of course, if this 1984 production of Donizetti's Anna Bolena, or at least its title role, had been filmed 20 years earlier, when Joan Sutherland's voice was in its spectacular prime. But like her Canadian Opera Norma, dating from 1981, this is a better-late-than-never documentation of one of the most remarkable voices of the 20th century.

Lotfi Mansouri spared no effort or expense in making this production special. He personally directed the staging, and handpicked an outstanding cast (right down to the very young and then-unknown Ben Heppner in the small role of Hervey). The visual elements--sets, costumes, and camera work--are also handled with great care, and Sutherland's positive response to this dedication can be sensed in her performance as the unfortunate wife of King Henry VIII. James Morris is best-known as a Wagnerian singer--perhaps the leading Wotan of our time--but he is equally at home in many of the villainous roles that are the fate of bass- baritones (Iago, Scarpia, Don Giovanni). In this sinister tale of an innocent woman ruthlessly destroyed, he shows a surprising knack for the bel canto style. Judith Forst is also excellent in the role of Jane Seymour. --Joe McLellan
