![]() Rating: - A world in which consentual sex is unknown.Rape happens in the world, and thus the subject is bound to crop up in art. However Kazuma Kodaka's rape fetish goes way beyond even the usual forceful male found in many romance novels. Ran never once consents to sex or says he wants it; rather his "man" must constantly force it out of him, protesting and yelling. Some other scenes of more violent rape, including drugs and outright force in later volumes, are glorified in great detail. We the reader are clearly supposed to find screaming, crying boys very sexy. It seems Kodaka cannot write consensual sex at all, no matter the couple or the setting. It's rape or nothing. Unfortunately, the above is not the only flaw in this book. The characters are not very interesting, the story is a predictable soap opera with random silly romantic obsessions and kidnappings thrown in as plot twists, and the visuals vary in quality (some pages are quite lovely, but others have strange proportions and choppy features and layouts). Unless the thought of rape turns you on, or you're a fan of soap operas, there's nothing to recommend about this one. Rating: - ordinary stuffTwo stars because you can read this yaoi without yawning too much and because some plot ideas are excellent... as for the rest... I am no expert, but I found the art quite bad: some strips are grotesque, some sequences confused. There is the usual anime censorship of genitalia: act strips are therefore unclear to say the least. The characters are not particularly likeable, nor deep and they act irreasonably. There are some stereotype hints of humour, completely out of place in what is supposed to be a drama set in the world of yakuza. Last but not least, plenty of the usual unbelievable blond Japanese and the obnoxious obsession for roles in homosexual sex. I will not buy the other volumes. Rating: - 5 stars for the whole seriesI cannot recommend this series enough, to all the yaoi fans out there. It has everything a good story needs, and with the (sometimes nicely graphic) yaoi it gets a star extra :) Over the series there is a significant change in drawing style, and it gets better with every issue :) Rating: - other k2 works are better!I usually love Kazuma Kodaka's works, but I wish that this wasn't her most popular work in the US. Some of her other manga and dj's are so much better. If only someone would release Kusatta Kyoushi no Houteishiki (Bad Teacher Equation). It will always be my favorite yaoi manga (it tends to lean more towards shonen-ai until the last 2 books) The ending still make me cry! Kizuna's characters and storyline just wasn't as appealing to me.... Rating: - UniqueThis story has everything, humor placed in all the right places, explicit sex scenes and even a little shonen-ai goodness in the ending that makes you appreciate the whole entire story and love its characters to death. It isn't all about games though a good portion of it is, but the intense sex scenes or the situations they get themselves into are worth all the attention. Though I'd put it in veteran category and it's definitely not for beginners. It continues as a series and I'm still trying to get ahold of volume six but so far I'm as addicted to it as I was in the beginning. One of my first yaoi books and it still remains on the top of my list. |
