![]() Rating: - eh....This collection was ok but the zombie story that takes up about half the book is too over-the-top. Rating: - Nothing like a bit of gay horror...I bought this book because of the author's great rating as a reviewer on Amazon.com! I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a quick and easy read - I read it in a day... Good to read some straight(?) out gay literature, although I felt the sex scenes were more suited to a gay magazine than a book. I particularly liked the Zombied Out novella. Great idea and a promising end - go the bears!!! Unfortunately, again, I found the sex scenes unnecessary and a distraction from the overall story. Daniel, any chance of a follow up on what happens to Dan and Dave? Rating: - awesome twists on favorite horror subgenresFrom werewolves to vampires, the stories in Closet Monsters are incredibly erotic in a way that you never expect. Let's just say modern 'bears' better watch out, because they are about to be replaced by another hairy beast, the werewolf! And for those who are in it for the horror as well as the sex, go straight to the novella Zombied Out. Sticking to the formula we all know and love, Kelly takes the zombie genre to new levels by rewriting it from a gay perspective. And it even has a couple of really hot sex scenes--okay and some gross ones too! Rating: - Dark EroticaIf you are a fancier of dark, gothic stories, replete with erotic sex and ample terror, then CLOSET MONSTERS is for you. Comprised of 5 short stories and a novella, you the reader will be transported into a sinister and frightening world created by author Daniel Kelly. In many cases, the terror is subtle and will creep up on you as you read. The short stories are merely appetizers for the main course, the novella entitled "Zombied Out". The tension in this one story is enough to exhaust. Sexual, moral, spiritual and ethical tension collide in this masterful tale of horror. Disclosed in this story are many of the aspects of gay life that are rarely discussed in other stories. Additionally, all of the foibles of mankind are thrust at the reader in a rapid fire series of events that capture the imagination and chill the soul. The stories, all of them, are also loaded with hidden surprises and turns that will astound. This book is a major winner, and I eagerly await more from this gifted and talented author. |

All three principals sing eloquently and with a fine sense of the opera's structure and context. Anna Tomowa-Sintow is in even better voice than Domingo, and Giorgio Zancanaro heads an expert supporting cast. The Covent Garden Chorus, directed with distinction by Michael Hampe, gives a memorable impression of the revolutionary mob. Julius Rudel's conducting is totally idiomatic. --Joe McLellan

Lotfi Mansouri spared no effort or expense in making this production special. He personally directed the staging, and handpicked an outstanding cast (right down to the very young and then-unknown Ben Heppner in the small role of Hervey). The visual elements--sets, costumes, and camera work--are also handled with great care, and Sutherland's positive response to this dedication can be sensed in her performance as the unfortunate wife of King Henry VIII. James Morris is best-known as a Wagnerian singer--perhaps the leading Wotan of our time--but he is equally at home in many of the villainous roles that are the fate of bass- baritones (Iago, Scarpia, Don Giovanni). In this sinister tale of an innocent woman ruthlessly destroyed, he shows a surprising knack for the bel canto style. Judith Forst is also excellent in the role of Jane Seymour. --Joe McLellan
