![]() Rating: - Fairly satisfactory updateI was surprised how sore I got after doing the toning section of this DVD the first time, especially considering I had done the original Callanetics workout three times in the week before I received the updated version of it. That was certainly encouraging, but this 30-minute "premier" (per the case's copy) of the toning exercises has, as other reviewers have mentioned, rather jerky transitions from one exercise to the next; with no warning they go from upright to floor, from being on your back to being on your stomach, which makes it seem very clumsy. I wonder if this might be because these segments were lifted out of the longer, all-toning Evolutions DVD, which I have not yet purchased. Also, as others have mentioned, it doesn't always tell you the number of repetitions to do, and sometimes it seems more time is given to one side than the other. The cardio portion is very low impact and goes by quickly. It is largely plies and other ballet-related movements. The menu for this DVD shows a "bonus" but unlike some workout DVDS, e.g., Lotte Berk and The Barr Method, this "bonus" is not an extra, short workout but just promoting the wonders of Callanetic and the availability of personal trainers. On the whole the updated toning exercises incorporate more ballet and pilates-type moves, and has slightly changed the positions from the original exercises, but these slight changes do seem to activate different parts of the muscles than the original Callanetics did. I give it 4 stars rather than 5 because of the clumsy transitions, lack of clarity in number of repetitions, and the misnomer "bonus" for what should have been labeled "additional information." Rating: - CardioCallaneticsI've been a Callanetics fan for 20 years and this is a great upgrade! I've often wished for the aerobic component and here it is! Many of the toning exercises are very similar to Callan's original, but the little "pulses" that she did have a new twist. The simple changes really make a difference! Having the three ladies demonstrate different levels of the workout is helpful too. Although I miss Callan, these gals do a great job and, as always, Callanetics "works, and works fast." Rating: - higher than expectedyes, the heart rate is leveled at a nice pace, not to hard but hard enough to develop a sweat and the toning program is surprisingly nice, with two exercices that does not appear onthe callanetic evolution program. very interesting, those 3 levels that you can work up on or mixt, depending on your strenght at different parts of the body. very pleasant to practice, the time runs fast, while doing the cardio callanetics programm! Rating: - Vigorous, but gently workoutThis workout is excellent for everyone, but is especially effective for someone like myself (40+ with bad knees). I found it so effective, and allows you to feel like you are really using your muscles without causing damage (you will feel this the next day however). I had the original on VHS and lost track of it, the calanetics workout series will definitely be an integral part of my exercise schedule. Sophaphilla Rating: - Worth the effortAlthough Classic Callanetics Lovers may not like this new routine at first, I found that after a few sessions I really began to enjoy this, and it does seem effective. Give it a try, stick with it and maybe mix it into your original routine. |
