![]() Rating: - Read my review before you buy this anthology!!I bought this and read it awhile ago. While it was good, it was not hundreds of dollars good. WTF? Captured by Kimberly Zant, Jaide Foxx, Elizabeth Batten-Carew and Barri Bryan has the titillating concept of being about rough men who take what they want from their innocent ladies that involves mild forced seduction, mild bondage and some mild D/s, plus an amusing foray into electrical play. Hostage by Barry Bryan: This is the longest of the four novellas and the most romantic. Abigail Warren is a former prostitute and is traveling to New Mexico to work at a mission hospital. When the stage coach stops to rest the horses, she sees Raul Mendoza, a prisoner of a sadistic sheriff. He's bound to a tree, dehydrated and starving, plus his testicles are wrapped in wire to further bind him to the tree. *I'm a woman and even I winced in sympathy with that description* She's horrified and tries to help him but the spineless reverand who is escorting her is of no help and the men all treat her as a silly woman who doesn't understand the way things are done out west. Later that night she tries to help him but they are caught by the sheriff and Raul Mendoza is forced to take Abigail as his hostage as they flee on horseback. Raul is a pretty nice man and he is very sorry for putting Abigail into this position. He's never harsh with her and in fact tries to act as gentlemanly as possible with her. Abigail is stunned by his behavior and courtesy. She's never been treated this way and she desires to please him however she can. There is no female rape here. *laughs* If anything, Abigail force seduces Raul. They have sweet yet graphic lovemaking out in the desert and under the stars. Neither Raul or Abigail have known such passion and are enjoying their stolen time immensely. But the sheriff is soon hot on their trail and when he arrives to spoil their romantic cuddle, he spills the beans on Abigails former occupation and Abigail's passionate reactions to Raul's caresses are put in doubt. He thinks she was just playing him and he leaves her behind when everything is sorted out. Abigail returns to the mission hospital and Raul hems and haws on whether to go back to her. Virtual Love by Elizabeth Batten-Carew: This is a futuristic D/s romance that's set in a time when people can play in simulated VR fantasies, like online multiplayer gaming. They can romp around the Wild West or play at being pirates. It is in one pirate fantasy that Jerette comes across the Phantom, a handsome man who keeps invading her dreams and her VR fantasies. He's determined to get her to give up control to him. To finally unleash all her hidden fantasies. Jerette wants to, oh, she wants to, but she keeps escaping him by ending the sessions before things get too hot. Phantom decides the nice guy routine isn't working so he steps up the ante with a little blackmail. It's a sexy and sizzling scenario that he projects and he employs a mildly threatening persona that made both Jerette and I melt. It's yet another ploy that he uses to try and get her to submit to him but again she escapes him. Finally Phantom invents up a simulation that Jerette can't run from and they eventually do the deed. When she starts to talk about love and forever, Phantom says he can't return her sentiment. He's not what she thinks he is and while he longs to be with her in the real world, VR is all he has. I loved this one. Phantom was smoking hot and I loved his little blackmail scenario. If I was Jerette, I would have given him anything he wanted and then some. While I loved the games they played the ending of this novella left me cold. It was weird, as in seriously creepy weird. I don't want to spoil it, so I'm not going to say. Just know that this creeped me out but I really liked everything else. Forbidden Fruit by Jaide Fox: His lands cursed to wither and die, Lord Dominic Rainier learns from a witch that the only way to save his people is to capture the lovely Lady Lilith Somerset ... and impregnate her before the next moon..... He steals her away from her people and locks her away in his tower. He forces himself on her, easing his way with the aid of magical aphrodisiacs. He doesn't want to hurt her or force himself on her but he feels he has no choice since his people are starving. Lilith eventually forgives him and starts to look forward to his visits. He soon allows her to wander the castle and when she sees the plight of the people she's saddened and endeavors to help any way she can. When Lord Dominic vows love to Lilith she accepts both for herself and her unborn baby but Dominic no longer wants to hide away from her father who is still searching for her. He wants to announce their upcoming nuptials to the world which will bring about the wrath of Lilith's father upon his already decimated people. With the help of the witch, they plan a counter attack that will save them all. This was my least favorite. It was kinda boring. They were both wimps in my opinion and there was zero chemistry or passion. I am not a fan of seductions with the aid of aphrodisiacs because IMO, I think they're a cop-out but hey, whatever. Heart of Midnight by Kimberly Zant: Poor Amy is first running from a sadistic serial killer and then she runs smack into a bad tempered man-on-the-run. He knocks the stuffing out of the bad guy and takes her captive. He thinks she's some kind of agent from a secret organization out to recapture him and he's going to interrogate her and get answers out of Amy any way he can... Kyle Whitehorse has been tinkered with by the government to be able to control his electrical impulses. He can shoot electricity through his fingers and now he's on the run from the government who created him and now wants to destroy him. He ties Amy to a bed and tries to sex the information out of her. He teases her to the point of orgasm multiple times using his mouth and his electricity tinged fingertips. After a while it's obvious she's not who he thinks she is, but she's also a perfect cover to use to help him escape, so he takes her with him on his run. This was the shortest and the most sizzling but I really liked this one. Kyle was at first rough and demanding with her and the use of his electricity was fun. It's not over the top and he soon eases up on his bad temper. Amy was sweet and pretty quick, too. Quick enough to know a good thing when she sees it and try to hold on with both hands. They make a run for the border to try and escape the bad guys where hopefully they will be able to live in peace. So while this anthology was fun, it wasn't hundreds of dollars fun. If you've got a hundred dollars to spare, buy yourself a sex toy and have some REAL fun. Rating: - hot-hot-great readthis was a great book, the first 2 stories, were ok. but the last 2 were great, the perfect stories. fun, sweet, and hot. |

The story is pointedly set in the late 1980s, years before the establishment of the WNBA, so Monica's prospects for pro ball lie exclusively in Europe, while Quincy steps into the pros at home. It's a pleasure to see a character as passionate and fully developed as Monica, and Lathan gives a fiery portrayal (she had never played ball before the film, but you'd never tell from her performance). Prince-Bythewood favors her struggle over Quincy's and opens our eyes to her unique challenges with a sharp, savvy contrast. Alfre Woodard costars as Monica's harping mom (always trying to get her to be more ladylike) and Dennis Haysbert is Quincy's philandering father. Hoops fan Spike Lee produced. --Sean Axmaker
